Getting There

• Car

  If you're driving from San Francisco, take US-101 S toward San Jose. After about 25 miles, take the exit for CA-92 W toward Half Moon Bay. Continue on CA-92 W for approximately 10 miles until you reach Highway 1. Merge onto CA-1 S and drive for about 8 miles. Look for the Cowell Ranch Access parking lot on your right. Note that there is no parking fee, but parking can be limited, especially on weekends.

• Public Transportation

  To reach Cowell Ranch Beach Access via public transportation, begin by taking the BART train from San Francisco to Millbrae Station. From Millbrae, transfer to SamTrans bus route 294 toward Half Moon Bay. Ride the bus until you reach the stop at 'Main St & Mill St' in Half Moon Bay. From there, you will need to walk approximately 1.5 miles south along Main Street, which will eventually turn into Highway 1, heading toward the beach. Please check the SamTrans website for the most current schedule and any potential fares.

• Biking

  For those who enjoy biking, you can bike along the scenic Pacific Coast Highway (CA-1). Start in Half Moon Bay and head south. The ride is about 3 miles and will take you directly to Cowell Ranch Beach Access. Be cautious of traffic and wear a helmet. There are no dedicated bike lanes along this stretch, so it may not be suitable for beginner cyclists.

• Walking

  If you're already in Half Moon Bay, you can walk to Cowell Ranch Beach Access from the downtown area. The walk is approximately 2 miles and will take about 40 minutes. Head south on Main Street until it merges with Highway 1, then continue walking along the shoulder until you reach the beach access point. Ensure to walk on the side of the road facing oncoming traffic for safety.
