Discover more about California Coastal Trail

The California Coastal Trail (CCT) is a developing network of public trails spanning 1,200 miles along California's coastline, from Mexico to Oregon. The Half Moon Bay segment provides a particularly scenic experience. This section of the CCT follows the former Ocean Shore Railroad route, welcoming hikers, cyclists, and equestrians. As you traverse the trail, you'll be treated to panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean, lush wildlife habitats, and secluded beaches. The trail guides you through grasslands and wetlands, offering opportunities to spot local raptors. You'll also cross bridges over picturesque creeks and enjoy views of Half Moon Bay State Beach. The CCT project began with the 1972 Proposition 20, which envisioned a continuous trail near the shoreline. Since then, various initiatives and legislation have aimed to complete the trail, promoting coastal resource protection and public access. While the entire CCT is not yet contiguous, the Half Moon Bay Coastside has made significant progress in creating a continuous expanse along this portion of the San Mateo County coast.
