Discover more about Purisima Creek Redwoods Open Space Preserve

Purisima Creek Redwoods Open Space Preserve, cradled on the western slopes of the Santa Cruz Mountains and overlooking Half Moon Bay, offers a captivating escape into nature. This 5,412-acre preserve is defined by the stunning Purisima Creek Canyon, home to towering second-growth redwoods, the flowing Purisima Creek, and an understory of ferns, berries, and wildflowers. Established with a $2 million gift from the Save the Redwoods League, the preserve showcases the resilience of nature. The park features over 21 miles of trails for hiking, biking, and horseback riding. Popular trails include the wheelchair-accessible Redwood Trail and the Purisima Creek Trail, which follows an old logging road. For panoramic views, head to the upper parts of Harkins Ridge and Soda Gulch Trails. As you explore, listen to the sounds of the forest and keep an eye out for local wildlife, including banana slugs. The preserve is open from a half-hour before sunrise to a half-hour after sunset. Whether you're seeking a challenging hike or a peaceful stroll, Purisima Creek Redwoods provides a refreshing natural experience.
