Discover more about Napa Valley Opera House

The Napa Valley Opera House, located in the heart of downtown Napa, is a historic multi-venue performance space that has been a cultural cornerstone of the Napa Valley since its opening on February 13, 1880, with a performance of Gilbert and Sullivan's HMS Pinafore. Designed in the Italianate style by renowned architects Newsom and Newsom, the building boasts a rich history, having hosted vaudeville acts, music performances, and even speeches by prominent figures like Jack London. After closing in 1914 due to earthquake damage and the decline of vaudeville, the Opera House remained vacant for many decades. However, a community-led restoration project in the 1980s and 90s revitalized the building, and it reopened in 2002. Today, the Napa Valley Opera House is home to two main venues: the intimate Blue Note Napa, a 150-seat jazz club and restaurant, and the JaM Cellars Ballroom, a larger space with a capacity of up to 600 for concerts. Visitors can experience a wide range of performances, including theater, dance, comedy, jazz, blues, world music, and family programming. The Opera House also offers guided tours, providing insights into its history and architecture. Its central location makes it easily accessible and a perfect complement to a day of wine tasting and culinary exploration in the Napa Valley.
