Discover more about Lookout Mountain Park

Lookout Mountain Park, a Denver Mountain Park established in 1917, offers a blend of natural beauty and historical significance. Perched atop Lookout Mountain, about 12 miles west of Denver and overlooking Golden, Colorado, the park spans 65.7 acres of evergreen wilderness. The Ute Indian tribe originally favored this spot as a lookout point, hence the name. The park's history dates back to 1889 when businessmen envisioned a mountain getaway. Frederick Law Olmsted, Jr., was consulted for the park's design. Today, Lookout Mountain Park provides breathtaking views of the Rocky Mountains and the city of Denver. It's also the final resting place of William Frederick "Buffalo Bill" Cody, whose museum showcases his life and Wild West shows. The Pahaska Tepee, built in 1921, serves as a gift shop and diner. Visitors can explore the Lookout Mountain Nature Center, which features interactive exhibits about the local flora and fauna. The park also offers hiking and biking trails, including the challenging Chimney Gulch Trail. The Lariat Loop Scenic Byway, constructed in 1913, provides a scenic drive to the mountain's summit.
