Getting There

  • Walking

    From the center of Nikao, walk south on the main road (Ara Tapu) towards Avarua. Continue for about 1.5 kilometers until you reach Hospital Road, following signs for Hospital Lookout. Turn left onto Hospital Road and walk another 500 meters. The path leading up to the lookout will be on your right. The 4 km walk from Avarua takes approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour. Be sure to wear good walking shoes, as the path can be slippery in places.

  • Public Transport

    From Avarua, take either the Clockwise or Anti-Clockwise bus. Both buses depart from Cook's Corner in Avarua. Ask the driver to stop near Hospital Road in Nikao. From there, walk south on Hospital Road for about 500 meters. The path leading up to the lookout will be on your right. Bus fare is approximately NZ$3-13. Keep an eye out for the bus service sign.

  • Taxi

    Taxis are available in Avarua. A taxi from Avarua to Hospital Lookout will cost approximately NZ$15-20. Ensure the taxi is one of the bright green cars and vans from the Cook Islands Taxi Association. Taxi services are available 24/7. Negotiating taxi prices is not customary in the Cook Islands.
