Getting There

    Mawamba Lodge is accessible only by boat or plane. Most travelers arrive by boat from La Pavona. From San José, take a bus to Cariari, then another bus to La Pavona. Boats from La Pavona to Tortuguero typically take 45 minutes to 2 hours, depending on water levels. The boat fare is around $3 per person, plus $2 per bag. Alternatively, arrange a private or shared shuttle from San José or La Fortuna that includes boat transportation. Mawamba Lodge also offers a daily direct boat service from La Pavona for an added fee. Public boats are also available from La Pavona to Tortuguero Town, with a short shuttle to Mawamba Lodge available upon arrival.

    Sansa Airlines offers daily flights from San José to Tortuguero. The flight is approximately 30 minutes and costs around $150 per person.
