Driving
If driving from Santa Elena, follow the well-signed road east towards the Monteverde Cloud Forest. The journey is approximately 6 km (3.5 miles) and takes about 15 minutes. Note that a high-clearance vehicle is recommended, especially during the rainy season, due to unpaved and bumpy sections of the road. Upon arrival, proceed to the Harriot Powell Visitor Center, located about 1 mile (1.7 km) before the reserve entrance, to check in and purchase or collect your tickets. Parking at the official parking lot costs $5 USD. A shuttle service is available from the parking lot to the reserve entrance for $5 USD per person.

Public Transport
From downtown Santa Elena, take the public bus that runs to the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve. The bus departs from the Banco Nacional in Santa Elena at 6:15 AM, 7:30 AM, 9:30 AM, 1:20 PM, and 3:00 PM. The return buses leave the reserve at 6:40 AM, 8:30 AM, 11:00 AM, 2:00 PM, and 4:00 PM. The cost is approximately 700 CRC (about $1.2 USD) per way. The bus will drop you off at the visitor center, where you can purchase your entrance tickets and take the shuttle to the entrance.

Taxi/Shuttle
Taxis are readily available in Santa Elena and can take you to the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve. The cost is around $10 USD each way for up to five passengers. Alternatively, many hotels and tour operators offer shuttle services to the reserve. These shuttles typically cost around $6 USD per person round trip.
