Discover more about Parque Nacional Manuel Antonio

Manuel Antonio National Park, established in 1972, stands as a testament to Costa Rica's dedication to preserving its natural heritage. Despite being the country's smallest national park with a land area of 1,983 hectares, it is the most visited, drawing tourists with its diverse ecosystems and scenic landscapes. The park boasts a captivating mix of rainforest, pristine beaches, and coral reefs. The two most famous beaches are Playa Espadilla Sur and Playa Manuel Antonio. The park's stunning beaches are framed by verdant forests, offering excellent snorkeling in clear waters. The forest is a sanctuary for wildlife, including sloths, iguanas, squirrel monkeys, and white-faced monkeys. Trails, like the one around Punta Catedral, provide panoramic views. Manuel Antonio has a rich history. In 1519, Ponce de León charted the Quepos and Manuel Antonio territories. The park's creation stemmed from local residents' desire to protect the area from development. When developers began restricting access, the community rallied to have the area declared a national park, ensuring its preservation for future generations. The park is open from Wednesday to Monday, 7:00 am to 4:00 pm, and closed on Tuesdays for maintenance and wildlife conservation. Visitors need to purchase tickets online in advance.
