From the center of Puerto Viejo, walk south on Calle 213 for about 1.5 kilometers until you reach the intersection with Playa Negra road. Turn left onto Playa Negra road and walk for approximately 1 kilometer. El Jardin de Playa Negra will be on your right side, just before you reach the beach. Walking from Puerto Viejo center takes approximately 20-30 minutes.

From Puerto Viejo, take a bus heading towards Manzanillo or Playa Chiquita. Ride the bus for about 15 minutes until you reach the Playa Negra stop. Get off the bus and walk back about 200 meters along the road; El Jardin de Playa Negra will be on your left side. Buses run frequently, and the fare is approximately 1,000 CRC.
