Getting There

  • Car

    From Sarapiquí, head southwest on Route 4 (also known as the Ruta 4) towards the town of La Virgen. Continue on Route 4 for approximately 28 kilometers until you reach the intersection with Route 126. Turn left onto Route 126 and follow it for about 22 kilometers. This will take you through beautiful rainforest scenery. After 22 kilometers, you'll reach a sign for Río Cuarto. Turn right onto the road leading to Río Cuarto and follow it for about 5 kilometers until you see signs directing you to Laguna Hule. The road may become gravel in parts, so drive carefully. There is usually no entry fee to the lake area.

    To reach Laguna Hule via public transportation, first take a bus from Sarapiquí to La Virgen. Buses typically leave from the main bus station in Sarapiquí. The bus ride will take approximately 30 minutes and costs around 500-700 CRC. Once you arrive in La Virgen, transfer to a bus heading towards Río Cuarto. This second leg typically takes about 1 hour and costs around 800 CRC. You will need to inform the bus driver that you want to get off at the stop for Laguna Hule. Be sure to check the bus schedules in advance, as they may vary, and plan your return trip accordingly.
