The ruins of Sychrov Castle (Zřícenina hradu Sychrov), also known as Hrádek, are perched on a ridge opposite Rabštejn nad Střelou, near Manětín in the Plzeň-sever district. The castle's location, at an altitude of approximately 480 meters, provided a strategic vantage point. For many years, the remains were believed to be an outer fortification of Rabštejn Castle or part of the town's defensive walls. Today, it is recognized as a separate castle and protected as a cultural monument. The first written record of Sychrov dates back to 1439, but it was likely founded during the reign of Charles IV by Henry of Rabštejn, who was granted the villages of Kotaneč and Hrádek. The castle served as a residence for Henry and his descendants until 1508. In 1508, Christopher of Gutštejn acquired the castle in exchange for Hostouň, but King Vladislav Jagellonský confiscated it the following year and annexed it to Rabštejn. The Šlik family acquired Rabštejn in 1518 but abandoned Sychrov. The castle was last mentioned in 1523. Today, visitors can explore the ruins of Sychrov, including the remains of a tower with walls 2.7 meters thick. The tower's diameter measures about seven meters, and a short section of the perimeter wall extends from the south side of the tower. Although modest, the ruins offer a glimpse into the region's medieval past and provide scenic views of the surrounding landscape. Rabštejn nad Střelou, often called the smallest town in Central Europe, is nearby.
