Car
If you're traveling by car, start from downtown Dover and head northwest on State Street toward W Loockerman Street. Turn left onto W Loockerman Street and continue for about 1 mile. Merge onto DE-1 N via the ramp to Wilmington. After approximately 8 miles, take the exit toward US-202 N. Continue on US-202 N for about 5 miles, then take exit 10B for I-95 N toward Wilmington. After about 2 miles, take exit 10 for DE-92 W/Concord Pike. Follow DE-92 W for approximately 3 miles, then turn right onto Smithbridge Road. Continue on Smithbridge Road for about 1 mile, and you'll see the Smith's Bridge Covered Bridge on your left.
Public Transportation
If you prefer public transportation, take the DART First State bus service from downtown Dover. Board the bus heading toward Wilmington. You will need to transfer at the Wilmington Transit Center. From there, take the bus line that goes toward US-202 N and get off at the stop closest to Smithbridge Road. After disembarking, you will have a short walk of about 0.5 miles to reach the bridge. Please check the current DART schedule for exact routes and times as they may vary.
Bicycle
For the more adventurous travelers, consider biking to Smith's Bridge Covered Bridge. Start in downtown Dover and follow the same route as the car directions, using bike paths where available. The total distance is approximately 12 miles. Make sure to wear a helmet and carry water, as some sections may be along busy roads.
Walking
If you are near Smithbridge Road (and have the energy), you can walk from nearby areas. The bridge is located about 1 mile from the nearest bus stop on Smithbridge Road. Just follow the road, and you'll reach the bridge in about 20-25 minutes. This is a great way to enjoy the scenery along the way.
