Discover more about View on Mullafossur and Gasadalur village

Múlafossur Waterfall, located near the village of Gásadalur on the island of Vágar, is one of the Faroe Islands' most recognizable and breathtaking sights. The waterfall plunges roughly 30 meters (98 feet) into the ocean, framed by dramatic cliffs and the quaint village, creating a picture-postcard scene. Gásadalur itself was one of the Faroe Islands' most isolated settlements until 2004, when the Gásadalstunnilin tunnel was built, connecting it to the rest of Vágar. Before the tunnel, residents had to hike over a steep, 400-meter-high mountain to reach other villages. This isolation contributed to the village's dwindling population, but today, Gásadalur is experiencing a resurgence thanks to increased tourism. The name Gásadalur, meaning "Goose Valley," may come from the wild geese that frequent the area. Another story tells of a woman named Gæsa from Kirkjubøur who fled to the valley after being punished for eating meat during Lent. Visitors can explore the village, admire the traditional grass-roofed houses, and soak in the serene atmosphere. A café, Gásadalsgarður, offers local Faroese food and beverages. For those seeking a more active experience, several hiking trails around Gásadalur provide spectacular views of the surrounding cliffs and the Atlantic Ocean. One popular option is the old village path from Bøur to Gásadalur.
