Villingardalsfjall stands tall as the northernmost mountain on Viðoy island in the Faroe Islands, offering a remarkable hiking experience. Rising to 841 meters (2,759 feet), it is the third highest peak in the archipelago. The hike to the summit is a popular activity, attracting visitors with its promise of stunning panoramic views. The hike typically begins in the village of Viðareiði, the northernmost settlement in the Faroe Islands. The trail is approximately 6 kilometers (3.7 miles) long and generally takes around 3-4 hours to complete. Marked by blue posts, the path ascends steeply, becoming rockier and more uneven as you gain elevation. While considered moderately difficult, the challenging climb is well worth the effort. From the summit, hikers are treated to breathtaking views of Viðareiði, the cone-shaped Malinsfjall mountain, and the islands of Borðoy, Kunoy, and Kalsoy. To the north, you can see Villingadalur valley, and for those seeking an extended adventure, a path continues to Cape Enniberg, one of the highest sea cliffs in the world. However, it's recommended to hire a local guide for the Enniberg extension due to the challenging terrain.
