Hiking
The Porontimajoki Open Wilderness Hut is located directly on the Karhunkierros Trail. From the Ruka ski resort area, follow the marked Karhunkierros Trail south for approximately 15 km. The trail is well-maintained and clearly marked with orange signs. Be prepared for a moderate hike with some elevation changes. No fees are associated with hiking the trail or accessing the hut.

Car & Hiking
From Kuusamo, drive towards Ruka. Then head east on Ruka Road (Rukantie). Follow the signs towards Karhunkierros and Oulanka National Park. Park at a designated parking area near the Karhunkierros Trail. From the parking area, hike approximately 6 km to the Porontimajoki Open Wilderness Hut, following the marked trail. Parking is free in designated areas.
