Discover more about Jardin Botanique et Roseraie

Parc du Thabor, located in the heart of Rennes, is a captivating blend of garden styles and historical significance. Spanning over 10 hectares, this public park combines the elegance of French formal gardens, the naturalistic charm of English landscapes, and the educational richness of a botanical garden. Originally, the land belonged to the Saint-Melaine Abbey, with Benedictine monks using it as a horticultural space. The name 'Thabor' is a reference to Mount Tabor in Israel. In the 17th century, the gardens were opened to the public, though initially only to men. Following a fire in 1720, it briefly became the seat of the bishopric. The park's transformation into its current form occurred in the mid-19th century, with significant contributions from landscape architect Denis Bühler. The park features several distinct areas : a French garden, an English garden, a botanical garden with a roseraie boasting over 2,000 varieties of roses , and areas known as the Du Guesclin square and 'l'Enfer' (Hell). Other attractions include an aviary, bandstand, and sculptures. The 'Catherinettes' section, added in the early 20th century, extends the English garden style. Today, Parc du Thabor is a popular destination for locals and tourists alike, offering a peaceful escape with its diverse flora, historical elements, and recreational facilities.
