History of Rabati Castle

A Frontier Landscape Before the Castle

The wider Samtskhe region has long occupied a strategic position between the Georgian interior, Anatolia and the southern Caucasus. Its valleys provided routes for movement, trade and military campaigns, while fortified settlements developed to control communications through the terrain.
