    To reach the Novalis Museum via public transport, take a train to either Sandersleben or Hettstedt. From Sandersleben, take bus line 414 or 430 towards Hettstedt to either the "Oberwiederstedt" or "Unterwiederstedt" stop; from Hettstedt (bus station), take bus line 414 towards Sandersleben-Roda/Arnstedt-Welbsleben or bus line 430 towards Sandersleben-Gerbstedt-Polleben-Eisleben to the same stops. From either bus stop, it's about an 8-minute walk to the museum. Bus fares are typically around €2-€4.

    If driving, Castle Oberwiederstedt is located on L152 between Hettstedt and Sandersleben. From the A14, take the Plötzkau exit from the north or the Könnern exit from the south, then follow signs to Alsleben and Sandersleben. In Wiederstedt, turn left onto Schäfergasse. Use Schäfergasse 6, Wiederstedt as the destination in your navigation system. Parking is available around the castle.

Born in the castle in 1772, Novalis spent his childhood here. The castle is located in Wiederstedt, which is part of Arnstein, Saxony-Anhalt. The museum, the only literary museum of the Romantic era in Saxony-Anhalt, is housed within a beautifully renovated Renaissance-style castle. The castle itself was originally a monastery, transformed in the 17th century. Visitors can explore exhibits detailing Novalis's contributions to poetry and philosophy, including his famous works like "Hymns to the Night" and the emblematic "Blue Flower" from his novel "Heinrich von Ofterdingen". The museum also displays paintings from the Hardenberg family gallery and Novalis's christening cap. The grounds feature a park with a linden tree alley, a fairy-tale rose garden, and the Blue Garden, offering a serene setting for relaxation and reflection. The historical Hardenberg mining tunnel, created by Novalis's father, is also located in the estate garden. Castle Oberwiederstedt also houses the Early Romanticism Research Institute, the International Novalis Society, and the Novalis Foundation. The castle is recognized as a cultural memorial site of national importance.
