If you are in the southern part of Südvorstadt, head north towards the main road, Karl-Liebknecht-Straße. Walk along this road until you reach the intersection with Wilhelm-Leuschner-Platz. From there, continue straight for approximately 1 km. You will pass through a few intersections and see signs for the city center (Zentrum). Keep an eye out for the large church towers, which indicate you are close. Once you reach Markt 1, you will find the Stadtgeschichtliches Museum Leipzig, Altes Rathaus on your left.
