Getting There

• Bus

  From Chania, head to the central bus station located at 1866 Square. Purchase a ticket for Kissamos, which is the nearest town to Balos Lagoon. Buses leave frequently, approximately every hour. The journey will take about 45 minutes. Once you arrive in Kissamos, you can either take a local taxi or a shuttle service to reach the Balos Lagoon ferry terminal, which is about 20 minutes away.

• Taxi

  If you prefer a more direct route, you can take a taxi from anywhere in Chania. Simply ask your hotel or a nearby local to help you call a taxi. The ride to Balos Lagoon will take around 1 hour and may cost approximately €70-€80. Make sure to confirm the price with the driver before starting your journey.

• Shuttle Service

  Look for shuttle services that operate from Chania to Balos Lagoon. These are often arranged by local tour companies. You can book a spot online or inquire at your hotel. The shuttle will take you to the ferry terminal in Kissamos, where you can catch a boat to Balos Lagoon. The entire trip, including the ferry ride, will take about 1.5 to 2 hours.

• Walking and Hiking

  For the adventurous, you can hike to Balos Lagoon from the nearest access point, which is the Gramvousa Peninsula. First, take a bus or taxi to Kissamos, then arrange a boat trip to Gramvousa Island. After exploring the island, you can hike from there to Balos Lagoon. This option requires good physical fitness and ample time, as the hike can be challenging and takes about 1-2 hours depending on your pace.
