The Majestic Guora Gate: A Window into Rethymno's Past

Getting There

• Walking

  From the center of Chania, head towards the Old Harbor area. Walk along Halidon Street, which will lead you to the harbor. Once you reach the harbor, continue straight until you reach the Venetian Lighthouse. From there, follow the coastline eastward along the waterfront promenade. After about 30 minutes of walking, you will reach the bus station. Take the KTEL bus heading towards Rethymno. The bus ride will take approximately 1 hour. Once you arrive in Rethymno, disembark at the main bus station. From the bus station, walk towards the old town, which is about a 15-minute stroll. Follow the signs leading to the Guora Gate, located on Antistaseos ke Dimakopoulou street.

• Bus

  Start at the central bus station in Chania, located near the Old Harbor. Board the KTEL bus heading toward Rethymno. The journey takes about 1 hour. Once you arrive at the Rethymno bus station, exit the bus and walk straight for about 5 minutes until you reach the old town area. Look for signs pointing to the Guora Gate, which is located on Antistaseos ke Dimakopoulou street. It will be a short walk from there.

• Taxi

  If you prefer a more direct route, you can take a taxi from Chania to Rethymno. Taxis are available throughout the city, especially around the Old Harbor. The taxi ride will take approximately 45 minutes. Ask the driver to take you to Antistaseos ke Dimakopoulou, specifically to the Guora Gate. This is a convenient option if you are traveling with luggage or in a group.
