    From Chania, drive south towards Chora Sfakion and then to Anopolis. The roads to Anopolis are paved but meandering, taking approximately 1 hour 45 minutes from Chania. From Anopolis, a 21km dirt road leads towards the trailhead. A 4x4 vehicle is recommended for this section due to the rough terrain. Alternatively, arrange a ride with a local in Anopolis. From the end of the drivable road, the hike to the summit takes about 1.5 to 2 hours. Costs: * 4x4 rental: Prices vary, but expect to pay around €40-€80 per day. * Local transport from Anopolis: Negotiate with local drivers; prices vary. * There are no tolls or parking fees.

    If you are already in Sfakia, you can walk towards the hiking trails leading to Pachnes. Start at the harbor and follow the signs towards the mountains. The trail starts just beyond the village and is well-marked. Be sure to wear appropriate footwear and carry water, as the hike can be strenuous. The hike from Sfakia to Pachnes is approximately 8 kilometers and can take 3-4 hours. Costs: * There are no costs associated with walking to the trail.
