Public Bus
From Heraklion city center, make your way to the main bus station (KTEL Heraklion). You can walk there from the central square (Eleftherias Square) in about 10-15 minutes. Once at the bus station, look for buses heading towards 'Anogeia' or 'Kouloukonas.' The journey takes approximately 1 hour. Get off at the stop for Kouloukonas village. From the bus stop, follow the road signs towards Mount Ida, which is about a 20-minute walk uphill.
Taxi
If you prefer a more direct and convenient option, you can take a taxi from anywhere in Heraklion. Simply tell the driver you want to go to Mount Ida (or Kouloukonas). The drive will take approximately 30-40 minutes, depending on traffic. Taxis are available throughout the city, or you can book one through a local taxi service.
Walking Tour
For the adventurous spirits, you can consider hiking to Mount Ida. Start from the city center and take the path towards the hills, following signs for the E4 European long-distance path. This hike is quite challenging and may take around 3-4 hours, so ensure you are well-prepared with water and suitable footwear. Follow the path leading through the scenic landscapes until you reach Mount Ida.
