Hi, I'm Eve. Here are a few practical things to know before exploring The Shepherds Shelter.
Local know-how to help you travel smarter and make the most of every moment.
Bus
From Heraklion city center, walk to the central bus station (KTEL Heraklion) located at 1 K. Kourmouli Street. Take the bus heading towards Rethymno, and inform the driver that you want to stop at Mylopotamos. The journey takes approximately 1 hour. Once you arrive at Mylopotamos, walk down the main street until you reach Unnamed Road. The Shepherds Shelter is located on this road. Follow the signs or ask locals for directions.
Taxi
If you prefer a more direct route, you can take a taxi from Heraklion. You can find taxis at various locations including the airport and the central bus station. The drive to The Shepherds Shelter takes about 40 minutes. Just provide the driver with the address: Unnamed Road, Milopotamos 740 51. Ensure to agree on the fare or ask the driver to use the meter.
Walking
If you are near the old town of Heraklion, walk towards the waterfront and follow the signs to the bus station. Once you reach the central bus station, take a bus as described above. Unfortunately, it is not practical to walk directly to The Shepherds Shelter due to the distance, but the bus ride provides a scenic view of the countryside.
