Getting There

  • Walking

    From the center of Kalampaka, head towards the main square (Plateia Dimokratias). Once you reach the square, you will see the large church (Agios Nikolaos) in front of you. Take the road that leads up the hill next to the church, following the signs for the monasteries. Continue walking straight for about 1.5 kilometers. You will pass by the entrance to the Holy Monastery of Varlaam on your left. Keep going until you reach the Holy Monastery of the Great Meteoron, which will be located on your right. The monastery is situated at the highest point, and you will see its impressive façade as you approach.

  • Bus

    From the main bus station in Kalampaka, take the local bus heading towards Meteora Monasteries. The bus runs frequently, so check the schedule posted at the station. The journey takes approximately 10-15 minutes. Get off at the stop for the Holy Monastery of the Great Meteoron, which is well-marked. Once you exit the bus, you will have a short walk (around 5 minutes) uphill to reach the entrance of the monastery.

  • Bicycle

    If you have rented a bicycle, start from the center of Kalampaka and head towards the main square. From there, take the road leading up the hill towards the monasteries. This route is approximately 2 kilometers long and mostly uphill. Stay on the main road, and you will find the signs directing you to the Holy Monastery of the Great Meteoron. Be cautious while cycling as the road can be steep in some areas.
