Opened in May 2018, the museum is housed in the beautifully restored old Primary School of Kastraki, a historical monument in itself. Inside, visitors embark on a journey 30 million years into the past, exploring Meteora's transformation from a marine area to the towering rock formations we see today. The museum features three exhibition halls. The first hall showcases general icons of Meteora with visual and hearing equipment, including a 15-minute video describing the creation of Meteora and the surrounding Koziakas Mountains. The second hall provides a general study of geology and its uses throughout Greece, displaying fossils, minerals, and rocks from across the country. The third hall offers a detailed analysis of the creation of the Holy Meteora. Exhibits explain the tectonic elevation and erosion that shaped the landscape, accompanied by fossils, minerals, and rocks from across Greece. Modern audiovisual media enhances the experience. The museum is across from Kastraki's village church.
