From Samaria Gorge, you will need to exit the gorge and drive towards Chania. Head southeast on the E65 road. Continue for about 40 kilometers until you reach the village of Elos. From Elos, follow the signs to Elafonisi, which is approximately 14 kilometers away. The road will lead you through beautiful Cretan landscapes. Upon reaching the parking area at Elafonisi lagoon, you may need to pay a small fee for parking, typically around €2-€3.

If you’re using public transportation, begin by taking a bus from Chania to Elafonisi. First, you will need to take a bus from the Samaria Gorge visitor center back to Chania. Once in Chania, head to the KTEL Chania bus station. Look for the bus that goes to Elafonisi; the journey takes about 1.5 hours. Be sure to check the bus schedule in advance, as the frequency may vary, especially in the off-peak season. The bus will drop you off at the parking area near Elafonisi lagoon, from where it’s a short walk to the beach.
