Getting There

  • Walking

    If you are already in the Inner City, the easiest way to reach Matthias Church is by walking. From the heart of the Inner City, head towards the Danube River. Once you reach the riverbank, walk along the Széchenyi Chain Bridge, which offers beautiful views. After crossing the bridge, continue straight up on Clark Ádám Square, which will lead you to a funicular railway. You can take the funicular (which costs around 1,200 HUF for a round trip) up to Buda Castle Hill. After exiting the funicular, follow the signs towards Szentháromság tér. Matthias Church will be directly in front of you at the end of the square.

  • Public Transport - Tram

    You can also take tram line 2 from various stops in the Inner City along the Danube. Board the tram and travel to the 'Vigadó tér' stop. From there, walk towards the Elizabeth Bridge (Erzsébet híd), cross the bridge, and head towards the funicular at Clark Ádám Square to ascend to Buda Castle Hill. After exiting the funicular, follow the signs to Szentháromság tér, where Matthias Church is located.

    Take bus number 16 from the Deák Ferenc Square stop in the Inner City. This bus will take you directly to the 'Szentháromság tér' stop, which is right in front of Matthias Church. The bus ride costs approximately 350 HUF. Once you disembark, you will find the church at Szentháromság tér 2.
