Car
If you are traveling by car, start from the nearest town, Reykjanesbær. Take Route 43 heading northeast and merge onto Route 41 towards Reykjavík. Continue on Route 41 for approximately 30 km until you reach the junction with Route 1 (the Ring Road). Merge onto Route 1 and drive for about 40 km until you reach the exit for Route 36 towards Þingvellir. Follow Route 36 until you see signs for Þingvellir National Park. Peningagjá is located within Þingvellir National Park; you can park at the visitor center and then walk to the site, which is approximately 1 km away.
Public Transportation
To reach Peningagjá via public transportation, take the bus from Reykjavík to Þingvellir National Park. The bus company Sterna offers a service that connects Reykjavík with Þingvellir. Be sure to check the schedule in advance, as the number of trips may vary depending on the season. Once you arrive at Þingvellir, you will need to walk about 1 km to reach Peningagjá. There may be a small entrance fee to the park, so bring some Icelandic króna in cash for that.
