Car
From the Skaftafell Visitor Centre, head south on Route 1 (the Ring Road) for approximately 30 kilometers. You will then take a right onto Route 998, which is signposted for Vatnajökull National Park and Hvannadalshnúkur. Follow Route 998 for about 5 kilometers until you reach the parking area at the trailhead for Hvannadalshnúkur. This is where you will begin your hike to the peak.

From the Skaftafell Visitor Centre, take the local bus service that operates between Skaftafell and Höfn. Ensure to check the schedule ahead of time as the bus may not run frequently. The bus will take you along Route 1. Disembark at the stop closest to the Route 998 junction. From there, you will need to walk approximately 5 kilometers along Route 998 to reach the parking area at the trailhead for Hvannadalshnúkur.
