Getting There

• Car

  If you're traveling by car, start from Reykjavík and take Route 1 (the Ring Road) towards Selfoss. From Selfoss, continue on Route 30 until you reach Route 32. Follow Route 32 to the junction with Route 26, then take Route 26 towards Þingvellir. Continue on Route 26 until you reach Hrauneyjar, where you'll take a right turn onto the F26 (Sprengisandur road). Drive along the F26 for approximately 50 kilometers until you reach the junction with the F208. Turn onto F208 and follow the road until you reach Landmannalaugar. Note that the F-roads require a 4x4 vehicle, and you may need to pay a fee for using some sections of these roads.

• Public Transportation

  For public transportation, check for bus services from Reykjavík to Landmannalaugar, especially during the summer months. The bus usually departs from the main bus terminal in Reykjavík, and you should book your tickets in advance. The journey takes approximately 4-5 hours, with a scenic route through the Highlands. Make sure to check the bus schedules as they may vary, and note that the bus may only operate a few times a day. There is usually no direct bus to Sæluhús, so confirm the closest drop-off point to Landmannalaugar and plan accordingly. Bring cash for the fare as some buses may not accept credit cards.

• Hiking

  If you are already in the Highlands and wish to hike to Sæluhús, plan your route carefully. There are several trails leading to Landmannalaugar, with the most popular being the Laugavegur trail. Ensure you have a map and know your starting point. The hike from Þórsmörk to Landmannalaugar typically takes about 4-5 days, but you can start from shorter sections depending on your location. Along the way, you will encounter stunning landscapes, hot springs, and colorful rhyolite mountains. Prepare for all weather conditions and carry enough supplies, as this is a remote area.
