History of Malabar Coast

Ancient Trade Route

The Malabar Coast has been a significant hub for maritime trade since ancient times. As early as 3000 BCE, the region was known for its spice trade, particularly black pepper and cardamom, which attracted traders from Mesopotamia, Egypt, and later, the Roman Empire.
