Getting There

• Car

  If you are driving from anywhere within Indiana Dunes National Park, head towards U.S. Route 12. Follow the signs leading you to Porter Beach. From the entrance of the park, take U.S. Route 12 East towards Porter. After approximately 3 miles, turn left onto North Mineral Springs Road. Follow this road until you reach the intersection with East 10th Street. Turn right onto East 10th Street and continue until you reach the parking area for Porter Beach. Be aware that there may be parking fees, which typically range from $5 to $10, depending on the time of year.

• Public Transportation

  If you are using public transportation, you can take the South Shore Line train from Chicago to the Dune Park station. From the Dune Park station, you can catch a local bus (check the schedules for the latest routes) or use a rideshare service. If you opt for a rideshare, simply input 'Porter Beach, Indiana' as your destination. The total travel time may vary, but it would generally take around 1.5 hours from downtown Chicago to Porter Beach, including the train and rideshare/bus wait times.

• Bicycle

  For those who prefer cycling, Indiana Dunes National Park offers scenic bike paths. From the park's Visitor Center, follow the designated bike trails toward U.S. Route 12. Once you reach U.S. Route 12, head east, and then turn left onto North Mineral Springs Road. Continue until you reach East 10th Street and turn right. Follow East 10th Street until you arrive at Porter Beach. Make sure to wear a helmet and stay aware of traffic conditions, especially on U.S. Route 12.
