    Casa Grotta “C’era una volta...” is located on Via Fiorentini, in the Sasso Barisano area of Matera. From Piazza Vittorio Veneto, the main square, walk approximately 5-10 minutes. Head east on Via del Corso, then turn right onto Via Fiorentini. The museum will be on your left. Walking is the most convenient way to reach the museum, as the Sassi area is primarily a pedestrian zone.

    If arriving by bus at the Matera bus station in Via Don Luigi Sturzo, take a local bus (operated by Miccolis) towards the city center. Get off at the Piazza Matteotti stop and walk for about 10 minutes to Via Fiorentini. A single bus ticket costs €0.8 if purchased in advance or €1.50 if purchased on board.

  • Parking

    If driving, be aware that the Sassi di Matera is a Limited Traffic Zone (ZTL). It is recommended to park outside the ZTL and walk. Garage Autoservizi Damasco (Recinto XX Settembre n.12) is a guarded parking garage a few minutes' walk from Via Fiorentini. Parking costs vary, contact the garage directly for current rates. Alternatively, free parking may be available near Via Piave or Via Gattini, though these spots can be difficult to find.

Visitors can see the small kitchen, the stable with its farm animals, and the living area with a bunk bed where the family slept. The lower bed was for the parents, while the upper bed was for the children. The museum also contains a cradle and an alcove used as an outhouse, demonstrating how an entire family lived in a single, multifunctional room.
