Discover more about Fukuoka Tower

Fukuoka Tower, affectionately nicknamed "Mirror Sail" due to its 8,000 half-mirrors, is a striking landmark in Fukuoka's Momochihama district. Constructed in 1989 for the Yokatopia Expo, it commemorates the 100th anniversary of Fukuoka City. The tower's design, by Nikken Sekkei, allows it to withstand magnitude 7 earthquakes and winds up to 65 m/s. Visitors can ascend to the observation deck 123 meters above ground for a 360-degree view of Fukuoka, Hakata Bay, and, on clear days, even the Asian mainland. The tower features three observation decks, including a cafe/lounge area. The tower's exterior is illuminated with seasonal light shows, making it a romantic spot. Inside, you'll find shops with local specialties like Hakata's traditional confections and mentaiko (cod roe). There's also a cafe and a restaurant. The tower has a connection to the Eiffel Tower, as both were built to commemorate the 100th anniversary of significant events in their respective countries.
