  • Public Transportation

    If you are starting from the central Kyoto area, take the JR Kyoto Line from Kyoto Station. Board a train bound for Nara or Osaka. Alight at Kyoto Station (this is the starting point). From Kyoto Station, exit the station and head towards the Hachijo Exit. Once you are outside, take bus number 100 or 206 towards 'Kiyomizu-dera' or 'Higashiyama'. Get off at the 'Higashi Hongan-ji-mae' stop, which is approximately a 10-minute ride. From the bus stop, it’s just a short walk (about 5 minutes) to Higashi Hongan-ji Temple. Follow the signs towards the temple entrance.

    If you are driving from the outskirts of Kyoto, navigate towards the city center using the Kyoto city expressway. Take the exit for 'Kyoto Higashi IC' and follow the signs for 'Shimogyo Ward'. Once you are in the Shimogyo area, look for parking areas near the temple. There are several paid parking lots available. After parking, it is a short walk to Higashi Hongan-ji Temple, which is located at 〒600-8505 Kyoto, Shimogyo Ward.

    If you are already in the vicinity of Kyoto Station, you can also walk to Higashi Hongan-ji Temple. From Kyoto Station, head east on Karasuma-dori (the main street in front of the station). Continue walking for about 15-20 minutes until you reach the temple. The temple is located on your left after crossing the intersection at Shichijo-dori.
