Discover more about Saiko Iyashi-no-Sato Nenba (Traditional Japanese Village)

Saiko Iyashi-no-Sato Nenba, also known as the Saiko Healing Village, is a living museum that transports visitors back in time to experience traditional Japanese rural life. Located on the western shore of Lake Saiko in Yamanashi Prefecture, the village was once a thriving farming community. However, in 1966, a devastating typhoon and landslide destroyed the village. In 2006, the village was reborn as Saiko Iyashi-no-Sato Nenba, featuring over 20 restored thatched-roof houses modeled after the original farmhouses. These buildings now house craft shops where artisans demonstrate traditional skills like weaving, pottery, and soba noodle making. Visitors can also explore museums and galleries showcasing local history and art, sample regional cuisine at the village's eateries, and purchase souvenirs. Blessed with sunshine and minimal snowfall, the villagers engaged in forestry, sericulture (silk farming), and dairy farming, working together to form a unique culture and live peaceful lives. The setting, with Mount Fuji as a backdrop, adds to the serene and picturesque atmosphere. The village is open to visitors from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm (with slightly reduced hours in winter).
