Discover more about Jindai Botanical Gardens

Jindai Botanical Gardens, nestled in Chofu City, is a sprawling 42-hectare oasis showcasing over 100,000 trees and shrubs of approximately 4,500 varieties. Established in 1961, its history traces back to pre-World War II when the site served as a nursery for Tokyo's street trees. After the war, it became the Jindai Green Zone before transforming into the botanical garden. The gardens are divided into thirty distinct areas, each dedicated to specific flora. The rose garden is a highlight, featuring approximately 5,200 rose bushes of around 400 varieties. Other areas include azalea, plum, and cherry tree gardens. A large greenhouse displays tropical and subtropical plants. The Center for Plant Diversity focuses on preserving endangered Japanese plant species. Visitors can enjoy seasonal attractions throughout the year. Cherry blossoms bloom in spring, followed by azaleas and water lilies in summer. Autumn brings colorful foliage and the Rose Festival. The gardens also host workshops and events focusing on conservation and gardening. There's also an aquatic plant garden located near Jindaiji Temple.
