In 807, following a major eruption of Mount Fuji, an imperial envoy was sent to the shrine to pray for peace and to halt the eruption. Legend states that Takeda Nobutora prayed here for victory before a battle. The shrine is dedicated to Konohanasakuya-hime, the Shinto goddess of Mount Fuji and cherry blossoms, symbolizing renewal and beauty. The five-story Chureito Pagoda, completed in 1962, is a highlight, offering panoramic views of Fujiyoshida and Mount Fuji. The pagoda was built to commemorate those who lost their lives in wars since the late 19th century. The best time to visit is during the cherry blossom season (late March to early April) when over 600 cherry trees are in full bloom. The shrine also provides scenic views in autumn and winter.
