From Big Almaty Lake, head southeast on the road leading away from the lake. Continue on the main road until you reach the intersection with the road leading to Medeu. Turn left onto the Medeu road (also known as Almaty-Medeu road) and follow it for approximately 6 km. You will see signs directing you towards Butakovskiy waterfall. Look for a parking area; you can park your car here and begin your hike towards the waterfall.

From Big Almaty Lake, take a taxi or a ride-sharing service to Medeu, which is about 6 km away. Once you arrive at the Medeu area, look for local minibuses (marshrutkas) heading to the Butakovka area. The fare for the minibus is affordable, usually around 200-300 KZT. Ask the driver to drop you off at the Butakovskiy waterfall trailhead. From there, follow the marked hiking trails to reach the waterfall.

If you prefer to hike from the Medeu area, after arriving at the Medeu, you can start your hike towards Butakovskiy waterfall.
