Getting There

  • Car

    If you are traveling by car, start from Moshi, which is the main town in the Kilimanjaro Region. Take the A23 road heading south towards Arusha. After approximately 20 kilometers, take the exit towards the B1 road. Continue on the B1 for about 30 kilometers. Look for signs directing you to Lake Chala. Follow the signs for an additional 10 kilometers until you reach the trailhead located at MPP7+H4G, Chala. Ensure you have a reliable GPS or map for reference.

  • Public Transport

    From Moshi, you can take a daladala (shared minibus) heading towards Arusha. Ask the conductor to let you off at the junction near Chala. This ride will cost about 1,000-2,000 TZS. From the junction, you will need to hire a motorcycle taxi (boda-boda) to reach the Lake Chala Trailhead. The motorcycle ride should cost around 5,000 TZS and will take approximately 20 minutes.

    If you prefer a more direct route, you can hire a taxi from Moshi directly to the Lake Chala Trailhead.
