Discover more about Slīteres dabas taka

The Slītere Nature Trail is a captivating 1.2-kilometer loop that immerses visitors in the unique environment of Slītere National Park. Located near the Slītere Lighthouse, within the park's nature reserve, the trail winds through the base of the ancient Blue Hills, offering a glimpse into Latvia's diverse natural habitats. The trail showcases a variety of European protected biotopes, including coastal slope forests, mineral-rich springs, calcareous fens, and waterlogged broadleaf forests. Keep an eye out for the common yew, Latvia's fourth coniferous species, and other specially protected plants along the way. The area is home to many specially protected plant and animal species found nowhere else in Latvia. Recently renovated, the trail features a wide wooden boardwalk, making it theoretically accessible for strollers, though the initial descent from the slope involves stairs. Along the trail, you'll traverse ancient coastal slopes, lush forests, and marshy broadleaf woodlands. Slītere National Park itself is one of Latvia's oldest protected areas, established in 1923. It protects a remarkable range of landscapes, from coastal areas and forests to wetlands, and serves as a vital stopover for migrating birds. The park's unique terrain, including the Blue Hills and the Kangari-Vigas complex (dune hills alternating with swampy valleys), tells the story of the Baltic Sea's geological past.
