From South Portland, head to the Casco Bay Lines ferry terminal located at 56 Commercial Street, Portland, ME 04101. You can take a local bus or bike to reach the terminal. Once at the ferry terminal, purchase a ticket for the Peaks Island ferry. The ferry ride takes about 15-20 minutes. After disembarking at Peaks Island, you'll see Fort Gorges directly across the bay. You can rent a kayak or take a guided tour to reach the fort from Peaks Island.

If you're in South Portland, you can rent a kayak from a local rental shop. Head to the nearest kayak rental service, such as Portland Paddle at 92 Ocean Ave, South Portland, ME 04106. After renting your kayak, paddle across the harbor towards Fort Gorges, which is approximately 1 mile away. Keep an eye out for boat traffic and be aware of the tides. Kayaking is a fantastic way to enjoy the scenery as you approach the historic fort.

For those who prefer a scenic route, you can bike or walk to the Portland waterfront area. Start at any location in South Portland and head towards the Greenbelt Pathway. Follow the pathway until you reach the waterfront. Once you reach the waterfront, make your way to the Casco Bay Lines ferry terminal at 56 Commercial Street, Portland, ME 04101. From there, catch the Peaks Island ferry as described above. After arriving at Peaks Island, rent a kayak or arrange for a guided tour to Fort Gorges.
