Getting There

  • Walking

    Start your journey at the South Portland Bus Terminal located at 100 Waterman Drive. Exit the terminal and head northwest on Waterman Drive toward the intersection with Maine Mall Road. Continue walking straight until you reach the Maine Mall Road intersection, then turn left. Walk along Maine Mall Road until you reach the intersection with Broadway. Turn right onto Broadway and continue straight. After approximately 1 mile, you will reach the intersection with Ocean Street. Cross Ocean Street and continue straight onto the greenway path that follows the waterfront. This path will lead you toward the Fort Scammell area. Keep walking along the waterfront path until you reach the end of the path, where you will see Fort Scammell to your right.

  • Biking

    If you prefer biking, you can rent a bicycle from a nearby rental shop in South Portland. Start at the South Portland Bus Terminal and head west on Waterman Drive toward Maine Mall Road. Turn left onto Maine Mall Road and bike until you reach Broadway. Turn right onto Broadway and bike down for about 1 mile until you reach Ocean Street. Take a right onto Ocean Street and look for the waterfront greenway path. Follow this path along the waterfront, which will lead you directly to Fort Scammell. This route is approximately 3 miles and will take you through scenic views along the water.

    From the South Portland Bus Terminal, you can take the South Portland Bus Line. Look for the bus heading towards Portland. Board the bus and disembark at the Ocean Gateway Terminal stop. Once you get off, walk towards the waterfront area. Follow the path along the water, which will eventually lead you to Fort Scammell.
