Getting There

Metro
From Bethesda, head to the Bethesda Metro Station, which is located at 7600 Wisconsin Ave. Take the Red Line towards Glenmont. After 8 stops, disembark at the Judiciary Square Station. From there, transfer to the Blue, Yellow, or Orange Line and take the train towards Largo Town Center, Franconia-Springfield, or Vienna respectively. After 2 stops, get off at the Smithsonian Station. Once you exit the station, walk east on Independence Ave SW, then turn left onto 7th St SW. Continue walking north until you reach Constitution Ave NW. The National Gallery of Art will be on your left.

From downtown Bethesda, walk to the bus stop located at Wisconsin Ave & Montgomery Ave. Take the Metrobus L8 towards Silver Spring Metro Station. After about 20 minutes, get off at the stop at 7th St NW & Constitution Ave NW. From there, walk east on Constitution Ave NW for about 5 minutes, and you will arrive at the National Gallery of Art.

If you're feeling adventurous and the weather is nice, you can walk to the National Gallery of Art. Start at the Bethesda Metro Station and head south on Wisconsin Ave. Continue walking until you reach the intersection with Elm St. NW, then make a right turn. Follow Elm St. until it turns into Woodmont Ave, and continue straight. After crossing over the Capital Crescent Trail, you will reach the intersection with River Rd. NW. Cross the road and head east on River Rd until you reach the intersection with Massachusetts Ave. NW. Make a left turn, and continue walking until you reach Constitution Ave. NW. Make a right turn and the National Gallery of Art will be ahead of you.
