Public Bus
From Gaithersburg, head to the nearest bus stop serving the Ride On Bus service. Take the Ride On Bus Route 55 towards the Twinbrook Metro Station. After about 20 minutes, get off at the Twinbrook Metro Station. From there, take the Red Line towards Glenmont. After approximately 35 minutes, get off at the Gallery Place-Chinatown Metro Station. Transfer to the Yellow Line towards Huntington and travel for 2 more stops. Get off at the L'Enfant Plaza Metro Station. Exit the station and walk southwest along Independence Ave SW for about 8 minutes. You will reach the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum at 600 Independence Ave SW.

To reach the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum from Gaithersburg, walk to the nearest Metro station, which is the Rockville Metro Station. Take the Red Line towards Glenmont and ride for about 15 minutes to the Gallery Place-Chinatown Metro Station. Here, switch to the Yellow Line towards Huntington and ride for 2 more stops to L'Enfant Plaza Metro Station. After exiting the station, walk southwest on Independence Ave SW for about 8 minutes to reach the museum located at 600 Independence Ave SW.

If you prefer to bike, head to a nearby Capital Bikeshare station in Gaithersburg. Rent a bike and follow the path towards the Washington, DC area. You can use the Rock Creek Park Trail to connect to the city, which leads you to the downtown area. Once you reach the National Mall, follow the path to Independence Ave SW. The Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum will be located at 600 Independence Ave SW. Make sure to park your bike at the designated bike racks near the museum.
