Getting There

  • Metro

    From Rockville Metro Station, take the Red Line towards Glenmont. Travel for about 30 minutes and get off at the Gallery Place-Chinatown Metro Station. Transfer to the Yellow Line towards Mount Vernon Sq. Travel for 2 stops and get off at the L'Enfant Plaza Metro Station. From there, transfer to the Blue Line towards Franconia-Springfield and get off at the Capitol South Metro Station. Upon exiting the station, walk east on C Street SE for about 5 minutes, then turn left onto 2nd Street SE. Continue walking for another 2 minutes, and you will arrive at the Folger Shakespeare Library at 201 E Capitol St SE.

    From the Rockville Town Center, head to the nearest bus stop at Rockville Metro Station. Take the Ride On Bus Route 46 towards Silver Spring. It will take approximately 40 minutes to reach the Silver Spring Transit Center. From there, transfer to the Metrobus Route M6 towards the National Gallery of Art. After about 30 minutes, get off at the stop for 2nd Street SE. Walk 2 minutes east on E Capitol St SE, and you will reach the Folger Shakespeare Library.

    If you are near the Rockville Town Center, you can take a leisurely walk to the Rockville Metro Station. The station is approximately 0.5 miles away. Once you reach the station, follow the Metro guidance provided above. However, if you prefer to walk the entire way, it is about 15 miles to the Folger Shakespeare Library. You can take the Rock Creek Park Trail south towards Washington, D.C., and continue on the National Mall, which will lead you to the library. This is a scenic route but will take around 4 hours of walking.
