If you are starting from the center of the Mississippi River Headwaters area, proceed north on MN-71 N. Continue for approximately 20 miles until you reach the town of Lake Itasca. As you enter Lake Itasca, look for signs directing you to Lake Itasca State Park. The entrance to the park is located on the right. There is an entry fee of $7 per vehicle, which you will need to pay at the entrance. Once inside the park, follow the signs to the Mississippi Springs area, which is located near the headwaters of the Mississippi River.
