    The St. Charles County Historical Society is located in the heart of the historic Main Street district. If you are already on Main Street, simply walk along Main Street to 101 S Main St. The Historical Society will be on your left, at the corner of Main and Jefferson Streets.

    From Interstate 70, take the 5th Street exit and head north. Turn right onto Main Street. The St. Charles County Historical Society will be on the left at 101 S Main Street. Note that parking along Main Street is free, but can be challenging during peak hours. Consider using the Park STC app to find available parking spaces. The St. Charles County Historical Society (SCCHS) is dedicated to preserving and illuminating the history of St. Charles County, Missouri. Founded in 1956, the society is located in the heart of historic St. Charles, at 101 S Main Street, within the Old Market House. The SCCHS plays a vital role in collecting, archiving, and presenting historical documents and artifacts related to the county. In 2009, the St. Charles County Genealogical Society merged with the SCCHS, expanding the society's mission to include the preservation of genealogical records. The society's archives are a valuable resource for researchers, genealogists, and anyone interested in learning about the history of the region. The Old Market House, which the SCCHS calls home, has its own rich history. In 1822, William G. Pettus, Missouri's Secretary of State, proposed a public market. A two-story building was erected in 1823 and opened as the 'Market and Fish House'. The building has also served as St. Charles City Hall and Police Station. Visitors to the SCCHS can explore exhibits, research their family history, and learn about the people and events that have shaped St. Charles County. The society also hosts quarterly membership meetings, publishes periodicals, and sponsors various activities to promote the preservation and study of history.
